Penang 2014 Photo Diary

Ahh food heaven. Never skimp on Penang if you are big on food. Pick up a food map in your local hotel or lodging and I promise your taste buds will thank you later. Took a short road trip up north with my family a few weeks back to meet relatives up north and I did not want to leave without a last round of Penang nom. We were short on time, so we only got our Chinese hawker favourites. We stayed at Armenian Street Hotel this time round and location could not have been better. We spent our 2.5 days going out on foot visiting murals and sightseeing. There's just an unspoken calm about the quaint streets and Colonial architecture. A UNESCO heritage area without a doubt. I am already looking forward to my next visit. Sigh, till then.

KLFW 2014 Day 5 Highlights

It was riot visors, pvc, black and whites for A.L.L.I.E.N. The three opening looks were so cool I had to share all 3. The minimalistic looks worked, weaving a good collection from Allien Gan. Love the drama he created. I had the urge to put on black khol liner and wear all black. And hello, cage sandals ftw.

We saw chiffon fringe, knitwear and draping in Jasmi Rejab's show. Mesh panels with strategically covered parts are always cool. It's always interesting to see what designers can do with a solo fabric type and colour. I loved the volume created with the last look and the detail, potential wedding dress possibly?

Jovian M delivered a feminine collection with a lot of pastels, lace and evening gowns. Part of the collection was your everyday cocktail/garden party kind of form. And then as if we switch quickly to dusk, sets with sultry hues began entry with intricate pleats and lace work. Also, can we talk about the closing gown? With all the ruffle glory?

It was print galore with Kavita Sidhu, girly colours and all. I love the foil-looking shift dress, totally party worthy. And the va-va-voom kaftans, totally holiday worthy. Brb, I'll be doing a Mariah Carey on my yacht.

Max Mak's collection featured fresh whites and half pussy bows. Overall, it was a very feminine sporty chic with neoprene in flattering silhouettes and laser cut details with some structure play. Fresh vibes oozed from popping red, yellows and aquas. Loving everything.

Mimpikita brought another feminine collection to KLFW 2014. It was beautiful and very... airy. Perhaps it is the colours and light material that makes me feel capable of pulling off everything without becoming a sweaty mess under the sweltering heat. No?

Ah, Pearly Wong. She never fails to deliver strong, rebellious collection. Why rebellious? Vibe duh. Heavy duty leather/pvc parkas (nevertheless awesome ones!) in Malaysia duh. The rest were too awesome with utility vibes and extra pockets. One for the handsfree advocate Leandra Medine.

PU3 came out with a delicate collection, with floaty mesh capes and join pieces. Muted and somewhat low-key tones were used, on lightly textured fabric. Very light and refreshing.

Sandra Azwan colour blocked, or rather, colour popped his way across the runway. His designs remind me of those of Gaudi somehow, perhaps of the oval symmetry. Interesting collection anyway.

Wanpa was fun with prints, textures and colours. I love the feather and print cocktail mini. Definitely a conversation starter, perfect. I would love to incorporate the pieces and tone it down with minimals. Everything looks cool one way or another.

When Our Eyes Met created interesting looks with denim, which wasn't really seen on the KLFW runway this season. I enjoyed browsing through the looks, which reminded me of My Scene outfits. Why? Pleather and dark lips of course.
