Bonne année everybody!
Recently, the fam and I took a trip up to the Belum Rainforest Resort. It was a 4 hour drive to the resort (oh the butt cramps), as it is situated on the northern tip of Perak in the Gerik daerah. This place brings me back to the time we went to Samosir Island, pretty much because of...... well, the island thing. But hey, the stay was worth it (yay Groupon) and the getaway was much needed.
We were greeted by an overcast. Followed by rain. And then mist. And more mist. However, no complains about the cool weather! We paid extra for an upgrade from Superior Room to Deluxe Suite and it was worth the every penny. The room was spacious and new, with wifi access, television, a huge bathtub and most importantly it had a view.
So, on to the snaps.
View from the balcony.
The place is really close to the Temenggor, Gerik and Royal Belum forest reserves.
If you were/are wondering, NO we did not raft all the way out there. My brother and I only went as far as 10 metres away from the bank. We are not that adventurous (nor would our parents permit lah).
Overall, it was a pleasant stay. It would be a good option for those who would like a respite from city/town life, or like me, tired of being cooped up at home. Unless you plan to visit tourist trails (sans guide) or opt for the 1 day orang asli village trip offered by the resort, there is really not much to do. The fam and I spent most of our time taking loooooong walks around the compound, chilling in the hotel room and driving around. Oh, and the food there is blah... Unless you do not mind Tom Yam stalls by the trunk road, you will have to stick to 37 ringgit dinner buffets serving only economical rice staples, canned soup and mismatched desserts.
Have a wonderful new year! Toodles.
